My work is about psychological narratives - the subconscious or subliminal messages of everyday interactions conveyed through body language, expression and gaze.
In daily life, we perceive, or 'read', each situation according to our own set of attitudes, acquired beliefs, experiences, memories. Thus 'reality' will be understood in subtly different ways by each viewer.
Photographs capture these fleeting exchanges as 'frozen moment' of time, but the artist can make interventions that acknowledge further dimensions of emotion or interpretation.
I am a figurative artist interested in exploring psychological narratives revealed in body language, gestures and facial expressions. As well as painting in oils, I also enjoy making pen, gouache and watercolour drawings that take a more light-hearted approach to people and communication.
This interest arises from my earlier career as a journalist. I have a BA Hons Fine Art from Buckinghamshire New University (2005) and a BA degree in English and Anthropology.
When not drawing and painting, I am a Guide at Tate Britain and Tate Modern.
